Welcome to Jazz at Five
Jazz at Five, now looking forward to its 15th season in 2008, has become a downtown Madison tradition. The series has consistently provided exceptional free concerts in a stunning locale - the100 block of State Street, where State Street meets the Capitol Square. When the sun is shining, and the music is flowing, there is no better place to be than State Street. Think blue skies and the setting sun reflected onto the Capitol dome.
In addition to the special setting, Jazz at Five features the best in local, regional and national jazz talent and is now one of the most important free, non-profit, cultural music series in Dane County. Our goal is to continue to broaden the cultural arts landscape in Madison. Jazz at Five will showcase Madison's musical jazz diversity as well as regional and national acts to round out the series.
In case of rain the day of the event, the concert will take place on schedule at the Overture Center Lobby, 201 State St. We will make the decision to move inside by 2p.m. and you can listen to 89.9 WORT, call 310-4462 for a recorded message or check out our web site for information at that time.
Jazz at Five Announces Upcoming Events
Nine local businesses are using their window displays to show off their improvisational skills. As part of Jazz at Five’s 15th season, local businesses were challenged to create window displays tying in to the theme “Anyone can improvise. But jazz musicians do it best.” Nine Madison businesses have accepted the challenge, eight on State Street and one near West Towne. The window contest runs from June 28th through August 4th. Winners will be announced at the August 6th Jazz at Five concert. And while jazz musicians may still hold the title of best improvisers, prizes will be awarded to the stores based on creativity, production value and theme development. If you are out window shopping in Madison, make sure to check out these improvised displays which will be up until August 8th.
The participating businesses are Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, DiMaggio’s Euro Design, Fannie Garver Gallery, House of Wisconsin Cheese, Jazzman, Little Luxuries, State Street Gallery, Underground Printing/Sconnie Apparel, and WinterSilks.
